Hass avocado · Exporters and technical teams

Avocado quality starts on the farm

What is limiting the exportable fruit from your suppliers?

We work with Hass avocado exporters and technical teams in Colombia. We link the rejections and claims the market sees to nutrition and soil-management decisions on your farms, and we measure the response in exportable fruit and cost per kilo.

The problem

Trace the complaint back to the orchard block

A rejection or a claim at destination shows the result, not the cause. We look at what happened on the farm — soil, nutrition, roots and management — while keeping harvest and post-harvest in view. When the limitation is in the soil or nutrition, we turn it into priorities for each lot. If it lies elsewhere in the chain, we tell you.

How we work

A plan your team can apply and measure

  1. Diagnose and prioritise

We review soil and leaf analyses, the fertilisation programme actually applied, the roots and the harvest records. We define what to correct first.

  2. Support implementation

We draw up or adjust the fertilisation and liming plan with your technical team. We include compost, cover crops or biofertilisers only when the lot needs them.

  3. Measure and adjust

Before starting we agree the indicators: exportable fruit, size, yield and cost per kilo. Afterwards we review the response and decide whether to continue, adjust or stop.

We structure the diagnosis with the 5M model. Our software organises analyses, calculations and follow-up; the judgement is the agronomist's. Explore the 5M model →

Experience

Field experience, technical judgement

SoilBalance grew out of the experience of Niels van Heeren, Dutch-born, with more than 25 years in tropical agriculture and a long track record in Colombia alongside growers, agronomists and fruit buyers in Europe. Besides avocado, we work in coffee, banana and mango.

Let's start with a concrete problem

Which quality, production or cost problem keeps recurring on your supplier farms? Send us the problem, a recent analysis and the fertilisation programme. In a first conversation we review the available information; then we propose the scope and quote for an agronomic assessment, with priorities per lot and a follow-up plan.
